Peaman Red White and Blue Biathlon

Frozen Pea Productions will host the Peaman Red White and Blue Biathlon Sunday at the Kailua Pier.

The half-mile swim and 3.5 mile race starts at 8 a.m. The theme for the race is Independence Day.

The all-ages event is free and participants are just asked to sign out when they are done.

Benefit for Kona Pony Lil’ Soljahs

Friday

A benefit concert to help Mustang 9’s state champions Kona Lil’ Soljahs to participate in the World Series will occur 9:30 p.m. to midnight at Sansei Bar & Grill at Queens’ MarketPlace.

Presale tickets are $10; $12 at the door. Tickets can be bought from any Lil’ Soljahs parent. Call Grad at 895-7505, Analu at 854-1322 or Melissa at 640-5519.

Donations are also being accepted to help with team expenses. Donations can be made at any HFS Federal Credit Union branch under Waimea Athletics Sub#6.

Kona Crush Soccer tryouts

Saturday

Kona Crush Soccer Academy will be holding open tryouts July 19 at Pualani Field. Tryouts will consist of two hour-long sessions with the head coach of the age group. Group times are: Under-8 coed, U-10 coed, U-11 boys, U-12 girls — 9-10 a.m. and 1-2 p.m.; U-13 boys, U-14 boys, U-14 girls — 10:15-11:15 a.m. and 2:15-3:15 p.m.; and U-16 boys, U-18 girls 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Waikoloa Mega Sports Camp

July 21-25

At Mega Sports Camp kids will be coached in soccer, basketball, cheerleading and flag football.

The faith-based camp sponsored by Abundant Life Ministries will be at Hooko Park in Waikoloa.

Registration is open daily at 8 a.m. and the opening events begin at 9.

Registration includes, a T-shirt, backpack, trophy and snacks.

The cost is $45 per child. There are discounts available for families.

The second annual Waimea Sports Expo will be held at Waimea Park.

This free, family-friendly, drug- and alcohol-free event offers an opportunity for youth and families to participate in instructional clinics and mildly competitive games.

LavaKids Aquathlon

July 27

Lavakids will hold an aquathlon in conjunction with the Greg Cameron Firemen’s Fund Biathlon at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area.

Keiki 6 and younger will participate in a free beach dash, while 7- to 10-year-olds will battle in a 100-meter swim and kilometer run and 11- to 14-year-olds will race in a 200-meter swim and 2-kilometer run.

The cost is $15 and participants may also race in the Greg Cameron Biathlon for no extra cost.

HPA Tennis Camps

Aug. 12-14, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 6-17

The HPA tennis camp, open to ages 6-17 of all skill levels, will be hosted by HPA tennis coach Jeff Lewis.

Register a minimum of six days prior to camp to assure a spot and consistency in the program.

Big Island sailing camp

Intermediate class July 28 to Aug.1

Two dinghy and keelboat sailing camps will be available for participants ages 10-16. Day camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Novice teens and intermediate sailors are encouraged to join the July 14-18 session. Intermediate sailing and intro to race is July 28 to Aug. 1.

The cost is $165 for new sailors, $145 for returning sailors. Scholarships are available.

Biddy Basketball clinics and league

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering Biddy Basketball clinics and league for ages 5-8 at Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

Clinics registration is slated July 21-31.

The league is scheduled Sept. 8 to Oct. 20, with play at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Registration is July 21 to Aug. 14.

Registration forms are available 12:30-2:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the gym office.

Volunteer coaches and officials are needed.

Basketball clinics upcoming in Hilo

Former University of Hawaii at Hilo basketball player Aukai Wong will hold basketball clinics from 5:45-7:45 p.m. in Hilo.

There are two divisions: one for intermediate boys and girls and another for high school boys and girls. One hour will be devoted to a study session with another on “intense” basketball drills.

Yagi hoops camp in Hilo

July 21-24

The county Department of Parks and Recreation will hold the Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp in Hilo.

The camp, open to boys and girls ages 9-17, will be held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium and the Panaewa Covered Play Courts.

Teenage campers will receive personalized instruction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Full-court games are from 2 to 4 p.m.

Ages 9-12 will receive similar instruction from 9 a.m. to noon. Four-on-four games are at 1 and 3 p.m.

Early registration is $60 per child. The cost will rise to $70 after July 14. Participants will receive camp shirts and group photo.

Registration forms are available during business hours at the department’s Recreation Division Office located within Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Luau Hale at 799 Piilani St., Hilo, and online at hawaiicounty.gov/pr-recrea. Checks must be made payable to the Director of Finance and include the note “Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp.”

The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a soccer camp from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 7-10 and 1-4 p.m. for 11- to 14-year-olds.

The camp fee is $60. Registration deadline is July 18.

Kids Bowl Free at KBXtreme

KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona is partnering with Kids Bowl Free, a national summer bowling program for children younger than 15, to allow two free games on weekdays.

This year, KBXtreme is nominating Big Island elementary and intermediate schools for the Bowling for Schools $50,000 grant program. The program runs to Aug. 31.

Kona Aerials Gymnastics Summer Fun Camp

The Kona Aerials Gymnastics Summer Fun Camp is open for children ages 5-10.
